Who is a part of TMTF?
Since its foundation in 1964, the Tidewater Music Teachers Forum of Virginia has been composed of music teachers who are currently or were formerly involved in music education, in the areas of piano, organ, voice, theory, composition, strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Our members work and live in the Hampton Roads area, including Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk and the surrounding communities.
What is the purpose of TMTF?
The objective of the organization is to provide a forum wherein teachers may assemble for the purpose of establishing a code of ethics and professional standard of music teaching, elevating the status of music teachers in our community, sharing related issues, and exploring current trends in music education.
Is TMTF affiliated with other organizations?
The Tidewater Music Teachers Forum is affiliated with the Virginia Music Teachers Association (VMTA) and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). TMTF was named MTNA Local Association of the Year in 2008, and continues to grow to this day. Members are encouraged to enter students in the various auditions and competitions sponsored annually by both the Virginia Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association.
Does TMTF have an official mission?
The mission of TMTF is to advance the value of music study and music-making in society and to support the professionalism of music teachers. This mission is accomplished by encouraging members to teach with competence, act with integrity, provide professional support for colleagues, volunteer services to community programs, and comply with the laws and regulations that impact the music teaching profession. The mission calls for an ethical commitment to students, colleagues, and to society. TMTF honors the mission, bylaws, and code of ethics of the Music Teachers National Association, which can be found on the official MTNA website.
When and where does TMTF meet?
The Tidewater Music Teachers Forum meets on the third Friday of the month, from September through May (with the exception of December).
