Diane Houghton Blanchard, NCTM, has maintained a large, highly successful private piano studio in NC since 1995, and has served on the faculty of the Raleigh Conservatory of Music. Ms. Blanchard holds a Bachelor of Music degree (Summa cum laude), with a concentration in piano pedagogy, from Meredith College, and the MTNA Permanent Professional Certification designation. She majored in piano performance at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. With an interest in educational development, she also completed two years of coursework in Elementary Education at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC, and completed training as an instructor for Kindermusik International in Richmond, VA.
As an active member of music teacher organizations, Ms. Blanchard has held many leadership positions. In the Raleigh Piano Teachers Association she has served as President, Treasurer, and Secretary, and is currently the Past Presidents’ Committee chair. In the North Carolina Music Teachers Association, she has served as President, President-Elect, Treasurer, ands MTNA Certification Chair. At the national level, Diane has served as the MTNA Southern Division Director-elect, and is currently the Southern Division Director on the MTNA National Board. She has been a member on the MTNA Membership Committee, and is currently the facilitator for the MTNA Local Associations Forum. She is currently the President of the St. Cecilia – East Carolina Music Club. She has served as the Jr. Festival Chair of the NC Federation of Music Clubs in Raleigh, and is currently the Greenville District Junior Festival Chair.
Ms. Blanchard is a frequent adjudicator for numerous organizations at the state and local level. She has presented programs to music associations on topics including The Value of Music Organizations, and Creative and Inspiring Strategies for Summer Lessons.
In 2012 Ms. Blanchard was honored in New York as a Music Teachers National Association Foundation Fellow. In 2016 the Raleigh Piano Teachers Association named Diane as the recipient of the yearbook dedication. In 2017 she received the NC Music Teachers Association Teacher of the Year Award.
